Patriot HS senior John Ross is the featured viola soloist for Explorations, the
Manassas Symphony's
Family Concert on December 10, 2022 at 3:30 PM. He is playing Andante and Rondo Ungarese, Op. 35 by
classical composer Carl Maria von Weber.
John Ross is a Senior at Patriot High School and began playing viola in 5th grade as part of the Prince
William County Public School Strings Program. He has been a member of the All-Virginia, Senior Regional, and
All-County Honors Ensembles and has been the Principal Violist for Patriot’s top orchestra for three
years. John has played in two chamber ensembles with the Arlington Philharmonic’s Youth Chamber
program and has performed regularly with his friends in a quartet for Heritage Village Assisted Living and
Memory Care. John was selected as an Honorable Mention in the US Army Orchestra’s 2022 Young Artist
Solo Competition and performed in a side-by-side concert with the prestigious Pershing’s Own US Army
Orchestra last spring.
John lives in Gainesville with his parents, Mark and Kiki. He has three older siblings Kathleen, AJ, and
Sarah. As he approaches college selections this Spring, John is interested in double-majoring in Computer
Science and Viola Performance.
He is thankful for the mentorship and nurturing he has received from his beloved orchestra teachers: Ms.
Miller, Ms. Milligan, Ms. Seamster, and Ms. VanDenBerghe since it’s their passion that has developed
his great love of orchestra music and performance! John currently studies viola under Dr. Scott McCormick,
Adjunct Professor of Music at Patrick Henry College and previously took lessons from Ms. Jennifer
Bockstege-Stokes at Prince William String Academy. John has had an amazing experience playing with the
Manassas Symphony Orchestra since last year and is extremely grateful for this opportunity.
