
Irina Lin is the featured flute soloist for Color and Light, the Manassas
Symphony's Family Concert on December 4, 2021 at 3:30 PM. She is playing Poem by early
20th century American composer Charles Tomlinson Griffes.
Irina Lin, a Junior at Fairfax High School, has been playing flute for more than 6 years. She is member of
Fairfax High School’s marching band and Symphonic Band. Driven by her father’s passion for
piano, she began her musical exploration on piano when she was four. At the age of ten she began studying
flute and since has been taking private lessons with MSO flutist JennaMarie Warfield.
Irina is a passionate and skilled flutist performing in school symphonic band and community musical
programs. She has participated in various county band competitions and Mid-Atlantic Flute Choir
performances. She placed 3rd in the Fairfax County Band Directors Association (FCBDA) Solo Competition in
2019 and achieved Superior rating in the county Solo & Ensemble Festival in both 2018 and 2019.
Irina also auditioned and performed in the All-District XI HS Band and for the Mid-Atlantic High School
Flute Choir in 2018 and 2019.
In addition to flute, Irina has a love and talent for art; she has taken private art lessons since age ten.
She won the Notable Award in Bow Seat’s Ocean Awareness Art competition in 2018; an Honorable Mention
for Visual Arts in the Virginia Holocaust Museum’s 2019 art competition; and achieved Honorable
Mention for Painting and Drawing in the Rho Psi Scholarship Program in 2021 during pandemic time.
Irina uses her musical talent and artistic skills to understand, express, and communicate with her
audience. Irina continues to pursue advanced flute lessons and technique and plans to pursue study in art
design-related fields in the future.
