
Praised by critics for her poise and artistry, Catherine Lan is the featured soloist for
Fantasies, the Manassas Symphony's season finale concert at 7:30 PM on Saturday, May 3, 2025. She
will perform Johannes Brahm's monumental Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor.
Praised by the Palm Beach Daily News for her “fluent technique, sensitive musicianship, and
probing intellect,” Dr. Catherine Lan has performed extensively across Asia, Europe, and the U.S. She
has appeared at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver,
Kadriorg Palace in Tallinn, Buda Castle in Budapest, Temppeliaukio Church in Helsinki, the Euphrasian
Basilica (UNESCO) in Poreč, and the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.
Dr. Lan’s 2024-2025 season features an impressive lineup of performances in addition to her
appearance with the Manassas Symphony. Her schedule includes recitals and masterclasses across the U.S., as
well as tours in France and Estonia. Highlights include solo performances of Brahms’ Piano Concerto
No. 1 with the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the South
Florida Symphony Orchestra. In 2025, Dr. Lan will also be the featured soloist in Mozart’s Piano
Concerto No. 20 in D minor during the inaugural season of the Broward County Chamber Orchestra.
An avid chamber musician, Dr. Lan has collaborated with renowned artists and ensembles, including Itamar
Zorman, James Buswell, David Requiro, the Aspen String Trio, and the Henschel and Maxwell String Quartets.
She has been a featured guest artist at major festivals and concert series across the U.S. and
internationally, with performances broadcast on WLRN-Public Television, Maine Public, Canadian Broadcasting
Corporation Radio, and more. As the founder and artistic leader of multiple chamber ensembles, including Duo
Beaux Arts and the Beaux Arts Chamber Ensemble, she continues to champion innovative projects. Praised for
her “palpable sense of danger and excitement” (Primephonic), her Centaur Records album Incandescent
has been lauded for its exquisite musicality by Fanfare Magazine.
Born in Taiwan and raised in Canada, Dr. Catherine Lan earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of
British Columbia, her Master of Music from Indiana University in Bloomington, and her Doctor of Musical Arts
from the University of Miami. She is a faculty member at Broward College and serves as the Director of
Chamber Music for the South Florida Symphony. Additionally, she enjoys sponsorships from Laura Jacobs Bridal
